kindness is important

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34

It is a challenge to find something good during these unprecedented times. The pandemic has increased the anxiety of most people and keeping a positive outlook is slim to none, especially to those who have lost their loved ones. There is an ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Now, there is the conflict between Israel and Palestine. More conflict in Haiti. Other ongoing civil wars are happening throughout many regions of the world. Who knows how much longer these events will last?

As a member of your community, what can you do to change gloomy circumstances? How can you restore faith in humanity in the midst of chaos?

Why we should focus on something good

For those of us who are in the city and community groups, you may have noticed community members leaning on one another. While the number of people affected by strife increases, we still focus on something good. We still tune in to positive news. We get excited by uplifting stories that gently remind us that there is good in the world.

Our country is not a stranger when it comes to disasters and tragedies. We can look back at the past events as a reference. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Harvey in 2017 left thousands of people stranded and trapped in the flood. Many people died and billions of properties were damaged. We saw soup kitchens emerging and thousands of volunteers extended help among the victims.

Every day, we come across viral videos of people helping each other. Heroes who are not wearing capes. Heroes who seem to be living their day-to-day lives but still manage to help those who need them. Heroes who dedicate their efforts to restoring humanity.

Kindness can also breed kindness

“For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap.”Galatians 6:7 It is important to remember that if you share kindness with people, you will also get it in return. When we see someone help and provide support, it inspires us to help as well. Kindness is infectious.

People have been coming together to support one another. Looking back, it’s so inspiring to see that amidst all the worries we had during the beginning of the pandemic, we are still here thriving.

You can reconnect with your loved ones

It is vital to extend kindness to everyone in these trying times. We each have our own experiences. Spreading kindness with the current limitations has given us the opportunity to treasure connections with our friends and family.

Helping others can be good for your mental health. It improves your well-being. When you help people, it will not only make them feel good. You will also feel good about yourself.

Acts of kindness don’t have to include big gestures. Even the smallest acts have a big impact on someone.

Although so many things have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the basic ways we can be kind to each other remain the same. Even in these difficult times, always choose to be kind.
